alright mamma mia with kate bush songs

donna and her cohort colonise the australian outback (”the dreaming”). donna marries three men in succession, all of whom are killed on their wedding day (”the wedding list,” “the wedding list,” “the wedding list”). shortly after the slew of weddings, donna becomes pregnant, but doesn’t know which man is the father.

25 years later donna’s daughter sophie is getting married. all three of donna’s dead husbands appear at the window of her bedroom (”wuthering heights”). she wants her father to attend the wedding but doesn’t know which man it is, so she invites them all and decides to figure it out later. donna sees the three ghosts from the bottom of a hill and wishes she could be at the top of the hill so she could greet them (”running up that hill”).

sophie figures that she must have gotten her gene to make rain happen from her father, and concludes that whichever of the ghosts can make rain must be him (”cloudbusting”). however, donna is angry at the ghosts and tells them to leave (”get out of my house”). in her distress she floats out to sea (the entirety of the ninth wave).

the three ghost dads collectively fill the ocean with rain so that it flows into the australian outback and brings back donna. sophie, noticing that the australian outback is flooded and that all three of her ghost dads can make rain happen, concludes that all three of them must be her father. she sits in their laps and sings about it (”sat in your lap”). then she gets married. everyone puts on red shoes that makes them dance and they have a fun party (”the red shoes”).

however donna drowns in the outback flood and sophie mourns this (”a coral room”). to lighten the mood, sophie’s grandmother kate bush appears and sings a weird song about some bullshit (“them heavy people”). everyone joins in. curtain.
