Golden Hare Amulet created by Kit Williams

I fell in love with this amulet when was a little girl. Artist Kit Williams created this amulet for his 1979 illustrated children’s book ‘Masquerade’. The amulet was buried in a field somewhere in England and the book contained clues to its whereabouts. Sadly, the amulet was dug up by a fraudster who got hold on some inside info on how to find the hare, and quickly sold it on for a fortune.

The story has a happy ending, however. Years afterwards, the new owner of the amulet, who lives in the Far East, got in touch with Kit after hearing the story of the hare. In 2009, the amulet was loaned to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and  Kit was reunited, if briefly, with the lost gem.
