A rectangular amethystine hinged snuff box. Lid carved with recumbent pug in relief with rose cut diamond eyes, collar and tail on piqué rug. Rundell and Bridge’s bills for purchases made by King George IV include an entry from February 1821 that reads, ‘snuff-box, root of amethyst, dog on top, gold and jewelled settings.’
