Went to the library to see if I could find the joan of arc picture book that has been on the tip of my mind-tongue for a few weeks (I want a picture from it as a tattoo) and was not successful unfortunately! I am remembering a specific illustration of her speaking with Michael outside of Domremy; she is frame left sitting on a hill under a tree, he is holding his arms out to her with his face turned towards her and away from the reader, the Light of God is reflected in her eyes…. But I did find the Josephine Poole book illustrated by Angela Barrett which I also owned! And that was fun to reread
There’s definitely a reason this is The iconic Joan of Arc children’s book. I was FASCINATED by these pictures as a little kid
Also I genuinely appreciate now as an adult illustrations made for little girls in which the girl depicted is allowed to look like this, and pains have not been taken to make sure she looks so definitively female.
