grete marks was a german jewish ceramics artist of the bauhaus school. she founded a successful ceramics company called the haël workshop for artistic ceramics with her husband and his brother in 1923. her work was considered degenerate by the nazis, who forced her to sell her business. she eventually emigrated to england, where she continued to paint and make ceramics until her death in 1990.
