Oleg, 22

“I am wearing a vintage St. John blouse given to me by a dear friend for modeling her clothes and a pair of 80s vintage trousers with a slight 40s zoot-suit feel. I am very inspired by 1930s glamour and 1940s film noir. 1930s & 1940s women’s vintage is hard to find, especially for a 6’3” gender queer like moi! My main inspiration (for years now) is Marlene Dietrich, specifically her style in the first half of the 1930s while she was working with director Josef von Sternberg. Currently obsessed with the aesthetic look of Ken Russell’s The Devils and The Boy Friend, both from 1971 as well as 1940s Lauren Bacall.”

Maison Martin Margiela Spring 1999 show

In October 2018, Martin Margiela was honored with the Belgian Fashion Awards’ Jury Prize. In a statement, he described why he had left his brand: “I felt that I could not cope anymore with the worldwide increasing pressure and the overgrowing demands of trade. I also regretted the overdose of information carried by social media, destroying the ‘thrill of wait’ and cancelling every effect of surprise, which was so fundamental for me.”
